Power tool battery buying guide
Voltage identifies the tool platform and must match. Amp-hours describe charge capacity within that platform: a higher-Ah pack can usually run longer, but adds size and weight and must still be approved for the tool.
- Compare the full tool range, charger options and battery sizes before buying into an ecosystem.
- Genuine packs offer known cell sourcing, battery-management communication, warranty support and matched chargers.
- Third-party packs vary widely. Avoid counterfeit logos, implausible capacity claims, damaged cases or chargers that are not independently safety certified.
- Stop using any pack that is swollen, cracked, wet, unusually hot or has damaged terminals.
